Kingfisher Tench

The kingfisher Tench is a rod of my own design,

As the name suggests , specially designed for fishing for Tench. Comprising of two sections of hand planed split cane with the butt section spliced into a hardwood dowel under the cork handle. The Kingfisher Tench is an 11ft two piece rod and can be supplied with either high bells rings for float fishing, or low bells rings for legering.

This matching pair of Kingfisher Tench rods offered for sale have been hand planed using the finest, oven baked, tempered split cane. They have been fitted with low bells rings, predominately for legering. All fittings on these rods have been hand made in my workshop.

The butt rings are real agate, with silver plated frames. The ferrules are double reinforced, made from nickel silver and have been blued.

The cork handles are 28" long and have been fitted with hand made knurled aluminium sliding reel fittings and finished off with aluminium butt cap and rubber button.

These rods are offered for sale individually, or as a pair and are supplied in their own hand stitched rod bags.

The CraftVersa is an iconic rod originally made by Milwards of Redditch, and features their patented reverse taper butt section.

Famed for its rarity and loved by many due to its connections to Bernard Venables (Mr. Crabtree). This is the rod Bernard uses in "A passion for Angling" when fishing for perch with Bob and Chris.

At 11'3" the CraftVersa is a great all round rod. Fitted with stand off guides it is the ideal float rod. Equally at home trotting on a river or float fishing on a stillwater, for a wide variety of species.

I have included a picture of the original Milwards advert for this rod to give an idea of what the makers originally intended for this rod.

The rod offered for sale has been hand planed to the original tapers, using dark flamed cane and whipped in green.

As usual all of the fittings are hand made by myself, including real agate butt ring, double reinforced nickel silver suction ferrules.

The cork handle features a reverse taper to match the taper of the built cane underneath, and is fitted with knurled aluminium reel fittings and a tapered aluminium butt cap with rubber button.

The Specialist Avon

The specialist Avon is a replica of a rod I restored for a customer, the blanks being built by legendary rod maker Bob Southwell and finished by rod builder R. Kirk.

This is a stepped up version of the legendary B.James Avocet rods.

Constructed of a tip and middle section of built cane with the butt section made from whole cane, set into a hardwood dowel under the cork handle.

This three piece 11ft rod is the ideal heavy float rod, being slightly stronger than the early Avocet rods this would be ideal for Tench, Bream, Chub and small to medium sized Carp and Barbel.

This particular rod features Hand planed split cane tip and mid section, with a specially selected length of whole cane for the butt section.

The cork handle is fitted with hand made knurled aluminium reel bands, the ferrules are hand made brass suction ferrules.

The high bells rod rings are whipped in the finest red silk along with the intermediate whippings.

This modern replica of a rare classic will be ideal for all of your stillwater or river angling needs.

Banty Fly Rods

These Fly Rods are 4'4'' and are based on the Hardy Banty.

Produced mainly for the American market by Hardy, These rods were intended for their own particular style of fishing.

These rods excel when used at close range in small overgrown streams and rivers. Typically used at short range with a short length of relatively heavy line.

In the right hands these rods are pinpoint accurate.

My version of this classic rod has been made as a one piece, rather than the original two pieces.

Both rods have hand made wooden reel seat spacers, with brass hardware, all made in house.

As a nod to the original makers, each road has been fitted with a refurbished,

original Hardy agate lined stripper guide, all whipped with pure silk.

Each rod comes with a reinforced rod bag to protect the delicate tip top.
